In the NHC on Law and Advocacy you will experience the challenge and thrills of standing up in a court of law to argue your client's case as you gain a comprehensive overview of the legal field, the many aspects of a trial,

and the world of advocacy.

The NHC on Law and Advocacy is Endorsed by the Yale Mock Trial Association.

 

During your NHC on Law and Advocacy Program you will:

  • Focus on team building and developing leadership
  • Meet with judges, private and public sector attorneys, and law professors.
  • Learn the various types of advocacy from negotiation to arbitration to trial.
  • Learn and prepare opening statements, closing arguments, direct and cross examination, impeachment, and admission of evidence.
  • Strategize with your partner and present a full trial — from opening statement to closing
    argument.
  • Analyze the appellate issues arising from your trial.

Focused Field Trips
Visits to courthouses, law schools, and law firms.

Industry Panels
You will meet with civil and criminal attorneys who will share their personal journeys in the pursuit of a legal career and their experiences since achieving that goal. Topics may include: “Think About Law — the Many Careers of the Attorney” and “Prosecution or Defense — Picking Sides.”

Each NHC on Law begins with the students participating in a Challenges Ropes Course.  During the course students learn to work as a team and challenge themselves as individuals.
